Bonnie Shipley

Mrs. Bonnie Shipley, age 95, of Soddy Daisy, TN, formerly of Celina, TN, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Soddy-Daisy Health Care Center in Soddy Daisy, TN.

Bonnie was the daughter of the late Charlie Melton and Mae (Thrasher) Melton. Remarkably, the oldest of ten children born in the Willow Grove Community of Clay County. Besides her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, as well as four sisters, Ruby Hurley, Christine Brown, Elizabeth Richardson, and Regina Melton; and 1 brother Billy Melton. Bonnie married Otha C. (Babe) Shipley on January 15, 1945, in Jamestown, KY, and they were married over 52 years until his death in 1997. She was a longtime member of the Celina Church of Christ and more recently attended Clear Creek Church of Christ in Hixson, TN.

Bonnie was employed for Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana for 22 years followed by Crotty in Celina, Tennessee for 17 more years. Some of her hobbies included traveling, quilting, and word puzzles. However, spending time with her family was enjoyed the most. Bonnie never met a stranger and had many, many friends. 

Bonnie is survived by, 1 daughter, Janet Yates and husband David of Soddy Daisy, TN; 1 brother, James D. Melton and wife Carol of Livingston, TN; 3 sisters, Tommie Adams and husband Art of Indpls, IN, Helen Ledbetter and husband Raymond of Indpls, IN, and Sue Cravens and husband Benny of Anderson, IN; 2 grandchildren, Damon Yates of Thompson Station, TN and Jayna and husband Drew Daniels of Red Bank, TN; 1 great-grandson Holden Daniels; along with a host of neighbors and friends that will mourn her passing.
