Funeral Services for Roy Edward Coons 68 of Moss, Tennessee will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Upton Funeral Home with Nathan Miller officiating interment to follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Moss, TN. Visitation will be Monday 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Tuesday till service time at 2 p.m. Mr. Roy Edward Coons passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born October 16, 1943 in Union Hill Community of Clay County, Tennessee to the late Charles Edward and Dana (Short) Coons. Roy was a graduate of the Hermitage Springs School (Class of 1961). He was a member of the Midway Church of Christ. Roy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and Army National Guard, serving over thirty years. He served in Vietnam Era and was a veteran of the Gulf War. During the 1970's Roy was fire Chief of the Celina Volunteer Fire Department for several years and he served as Celina City Judge. Roy was a factory worker at Crotty Corporation also was a tobacco and cattle farmer. He was a member of the VFW. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; special aunt and uncle, Emily and Terry Odle; brothers, Jack and Guy Coons. He is survived by wife of forty-five years Vera (Denton) Coons of Moss, TN., sons, James Bryan and Jason Edward (Lora) Coons all of Moss, TN.; brother, Joseph Coons of Indiana; half sister, Virginia Schmidt of Kentucky; grandchildren Abby Lynne and Wade Edward Coons.
