Betty Ruth Melton-Smith

Mrs. Betty Ruth Melton Smith, age 89, of Celina, TN, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Upton Hay Funeral Home with Benji Bailey officiating and interment to follow in the Butler’s Landing Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service.

She was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1937, to the late Mary Dean (Sevier) and Herman T. Melton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her spouse, Clifton (Bud) Smith; brothers, Bobby, W.T. (Billy), and Joe; sisters, Alene, Kathleen, and Francis.

Betty worked many years at Celina K-8 as a teacher’s assistant moving onto the position of deputy property assessor until retirement. She was an avid sports fan, up until her last days. That was the one of the things she loved and enjoyed the most, aside of her family.

She was a devoted Christian, and the true testimony of what a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend should be. She was a proud member of the Butler's Landing Church of Christ. Although she will be missed, all the life lessons, positive influence, and wonderful memories will live on in all those who knew and loved her.

Betty is survived by her sons, David Smith, Jeff Smith, and Marty Smith (Heather); grandchildren, Ella Smith, and Peyton Smith; brothers, George Melton (Betty), and Fred Melton (Shirley); special caregivers, Apryl McLerran, Loretta Tinsley, and Rita Whaley; as well as numerous other beloved family and friends that will mourn her passing.

The family request any memorial contributions be made to the Butler’s Landing Cemetery.
